The NICEBOTS project is a one-month long open studio exhibit, showcasing the construction and design of interactive robots. During the exhibition, the artists transform the gallery space into a working studio where the audience is able to observe and learn how the bots are built and interact with them in their space. The open studio format allows for dynamic changes throughout the exhibition. By observing the audience's interaction with the bots and the effects the bots have on the audience, we are able to make adjustments and "teach" the bots different behaviors. During the one month exhibition, the bots begin as infants, having only basic motor and sensor controls. As the show develops, additional bots will be built and their "brains" will evolve with our guidance. Unique behaviors will emerge giving each robot their personality.
Le projet NICEBOTS est un atelier de création
ouvert durant un mois, dédié à la conception et à
la construction de robots interactifs. Au cours de cette exposition, les
artistes transforment la galerie en atelier où le public est invité
à observer et apprendre comment les robots sont assemblés.
De plus, le public est encouragé à manipuler les robots
et à partager l'espace avec eux. En obervant l'interaction entre
le public et les robots, les artistes réalisent des réglages
sur les robots et leur apprennent de nouveaux comportements. Au début
de l'exposition, les robots affichent un comportement primitif, ne bénéficiant
que de systèmes moteurs et sensoriels primitifs : ce ne sont que
des bébés. À mesure que l'exposition progressera,
de nouveaux robots seront construits et leurs comportements évolueront
sous le contrôle des artistes. Nicebots propose donc un projet dynamique
et interactif qui sensibilise le public aux enjeux de la robotique.
